Money management and money mindset go hand-in-hand. When it comes to managing your money, you need to take a closer look at your relationship with it. How do you treat money? How do you behave with money? What does that look like in your relationship with money? Because how you treat money affects how it grows and accumulates, or how it doesn’t. I know that sounds crazy, trust me, but it is not. Your views, your relationship and your mindset about money all impact the way you manage your money.
Now, I have said before, I don’t always agree with everything that Dave Ramsey says. But, there is one thing I agree with, which can be applied to both personal finance and business finance, and that’s the idea that when it comes to finances, 20% is head knowledge and 80% is behaviour. That means we HAVE the knowledge, and we CAN learn how to budget, but unless we change our behavior around money, nothing will change. As in, if you’re still spending in frivolous ways, you’ll still be broke. The behaviour HAS to change.
Another mindset that I love comes from another dear friend and, it’s basically: if you can’t manage a dollar, you’ll never be able to manage a hundred thousand dollars unless you change your behavior. Now, it’s important to note that I’m NOT saying you can’t spend your money. But, there is a BIG difference between spending frivolously and investing mindfully. This is where the mindset and behavior come into play – being aware and mindful of our money and where it’s going, and then having our behaviour match that.
So, I have a challenge if you dare to accept….
I challenge you to sit down and evaluate WHAT your behaviour is when it comes to spending money. Is it in line with the mindset you have (or the mindset you want)? If you want your money to grow, is your behavior matching that? For example, if you’re wanting to invest in your retirement, does your current behavior support that? When your mindset and behaviours match, you will be empowered to take control of your money, and you can stop living in chaos.
Take control of your finances, and you can have sassy and sexy money too!
