“If you look really closely, most overnight successes took a long time” – Steve Jobs
Each person will define and look at success differently. Depending on your goals, lifestyle and values, success will look different from one person to the next. There is no right or wrong way to be successful. Only you can determine that for yourself. No matter what success actually looks like to you, there are certain daily habits that will put you on the path towards success.
So, what are some things you can do to propel yourself closer to success? Here are a few of my tips for setting yourself up for success.
Have a clear vision and set goals – Knowing what you love doing and have a passion for is the first step towards being successful. You can’t gain success if you don’t have a clear vision of how to achieve it or how to get there. Set your goals based on that vision.
Set SMART goals – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely. It can be easy to get distracted and swayed from a long term goal if you don’t have measures in place to keep you focused. SMART goals help to break down a big goal into smaller and less overwhelming parts. This way of goal setting helps to focus your attention and efforts and increases your chances of achieving the goal you’ve set for yourself. {CLICK HERE for a great resource for setting SMART goals}
Learn new skills – Learning a new skill, or advancing skills you already have is always a good thing. You can never have too much knowledge. When you brush up on your skills or learn a new skill it will almost always help you become adaptable to changes that may come up in your work environment (a great example is how businesses have had to change how they operate due to restrictions). The more skills and knowledge you have, the further you can grow your business.
Stay focused – Having the ability to stay focused is a skill that almost all successful people have. Focus involves taking charge of your life and staying the course during distractions, setbacks and challenges. When you stay focused on your goals consistently you will see progress and results. Now, this does not mean neglecting or ignoring other areas of your life, it just means you focus on the right things and don’t get sidetracked with time-eating activities (hello scrolling social media aimlessly).
No matter what your definition of success is, it’s essential to implement habits that will help you achieve your goals and the level of success you want. When it’s something you truly desire, you are willing to put in the work and effort to get the results. Set up a realistic plan that you will be able to stay focused on, even in the hardest of times.
